Healin' in the Heartland

After the tornado on May 20, Blake Shelton and many other Oklahoma (and non-Oklahoman) country music artists got together to form a benefit concert: Healin' in the Heartland.

My friend, Karen, and I decided that we wanted to try and get tickets. Karen was on the computer all morning and when the tickets went on sale at 10 am. She was on there and snagged us four tickets!

We were so pumped because we later found out that all of the tickets sold out in 30 seconds.

We each got a ticket then both invited someone to go with us. I decided to take my mother in law. You see, she is OBSESSED with Reba. The last time Reba was in Tulsa she wasn't able to go. Well, Reba was at Healin' in the Heartland. I knew she would be thrilled to go so Lee and I decided to buy her ticket.

It was a Wednesday night so we drove back into OKC that evening.

The concert included: Blake Shelton, Reba, Miranda Lambert, Darius Rucker, Vince Gill, Usher, and one of the guys from One Republic.

They filmed the concert live for television, but after that was over they had another concert just for us. It was AMAZING.

People, I saw Usher. Live.

Be still my heart.

all I've got

I haven't blogged in quite some time. I really feel as if I have nothing to write about, currently. I'm sure if I sat and thought long and hard then I would come up with something.

But I don't just like to or want to aimlessly write because I have a blog. I want to write about things that matter. I want to document memories that I want to keep forever. I want my words to make an impact.

...But some times that just isn't possible. Sometimes it's just rambles of nonsense.

Truthfully, I could talk about a few different things:

Big Brother, anyone? @BigBrotherLeak more importantly. The coaches are totally going to get thrown back in the game (at some point!).

The Bachelorette finale??? I was totally hoping for Arie, but Jef ended up seeming like a better match for Emily.

Yes, I'll admit it. I, also, watch Snooki & JWOWW. Who isn't entertained by a prego Snooks that can't drink and party and all she does is whine about it. Pure entertainment. Reality TV at it's best.

Oh AND Bachelor Pad?!?!?? Are we the only people that watch that show? Surely not! Erica Rose? Ew. I'm annoyed just thinking about her.

Hello! This HEAT! It's unbearable. It's disgusting. And I'm ready for fall. That's all.

Speaking of the heat - I find it near close to IMPOSSIBLE to be interested in cooking dinner or much less backing because it is so hot.

I guess sometimes I just need to sit down and write type these pointless thoughts about because maybe one day (you know those crazy days where you've got a million and one things to do or say) I can look back and see that life does eventually calm down :)

Maybe, at a future date, I will have something more life applicable or world changing to say. But until then, I've got reality tv to watch, people.

(I could have worse or more expensive vices! Chill.)

Obsessed

Has anyone ever watched the show "My Mom is Obsessed?" This show is nuts.

Each episode there are different women with different "obsession." I caught one episode of a woman obsessed with weight. A woman being obsessed with her weight (especially in today's society) is completely normal. BUT this woman's obsession was on another level:

*She weighed her self every-single-morning.

*Works about every-single-day for at least two - three hours.

She also obsesses about her daughters weight in fear that she will gain weight when she gets older. Everyone gains weight as they get older. This lady "blames" her weight issues on when she had her first pregnancy she gained 50 lbs. Totally normal. Maybe 50 lbs. was more than her doctor suggested, but still normal. She is so paranoid about her daughters potential weight gain that she:

*Makes her daughter call her at lunch every-single-day so she can tell her the options the school is providing so she can tell her what she is allowed to eat and what she is not allowed.

*Lectures her daughter when she eats anything that she does not give her permission to eat.

*Grounds her daughter if she goes out for pizza (or any other place that involves food) with her friends.

*On occasion weighs her daughter if she feels like she has eaten things behind her back or hasn't felt comfortable with her meal choices that week.

I'm serious - this show is nuts!...impartially this lady!

I just don't understand how this lady really thought she was "helping" her daughter prevent future "weight issues" by being so critical of her. It was more like she was preparing her for her future eating disorder and self-conscious body images.

Our job as parents - especially mother's to young girls - are to empower them.

To brush their hair, when they are 4 years old, and them how beautiful they are just the way they are...

To remind them, when they are 13 years old, that all girls go through that weird phase when we gain weight, change shapes, and feel awkward...

To set an example, when they are 17 years old, and teach them to dress modestly. (Cor. 6:19-20)

...so on and so forth.

You see where I'm going here.

"The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and good conscience and a sincere faith"
1 Timothy 1:5 NIV

Splish...Splash!

Thanks to the B family, we now have a pool!!

Last Sunday Lee, his dad, his grandpa, and brother all went and broke down the pool. After a long 4 hours they finally got it down. We are SO excited to receive such a gift! We can't wait until summer and to get this up and going. I also can't wait for Hadley to see it and see what she thinks! She loves the water now. Hopefully, she likes her pool too! :)

Not so much.

Friday Favorites posts? Not so much. I have good intentions. I promise. I have them started and some fully prepared. I just can't seem to remember to publish them on Friday. WELL...I do remember, but just not until Monday :)

I'll do better this week. Really. I mean, I will definitely try harder! ;)

But here is a little week recap:

Tuesday was Valentine's day. That night me and my husband, Lee, went to Osaka's for dinner. Hadley went to spend time at Nammy and Papa's house. We only go to Osaka's for special occassions. Since my birthday was Friday (2/17/2012) I proposed that we go to Osaka's on V-day for V-day/birthday celebration. It was fun!

Wednesday we had a Valentine's banquet at church that night. Just yummy food and fellowship.

Thursday I went to Locust Grove to have our taxes done. Hallelujah, we do NOT have to pay in this year! I'm ecstatic about this one!

Friday was my 24th birthday. I honestly, assumed we would stay home and just hang out. I mean, we already "celebrated" it with dinner at Osaka's a few nights earlier. Well, Lee decided that me cooking dinner on my birthday wasn't acceptable. We went out for Mexican :)

Saturday I spent the day with an old friend and her little girl. This time was much needed and so fun catching up. It's crazy to spend time with a friend that you've known your whole life. Then watch our little girls play together. This by far is one of the strangest things about having a child. Anyone else?

Sunday we had church and family dinner at my grandparents house to celebrate my birthday and my aunts birthday, which is tomorrow. Sunday afternoon was spent over at a new friend's house and a great little treat that I'll post about later :)

I never really do "re-caps" but I figured since I can't remember to do other prepared posts then why not?

Have a lovely day!

Words of the soul

I had this theory that if I listened to a certain playlist of CD at the exact same time everyday (night time, before bed) that when she was born she would associate this music with sleeping. With every intention and every attempt... I failed! I never seemed to remember to listen to the music. Well, I shouldn't say never. I did sometimes, but never at the same time. Fail.

Since Hadley was born at night and I had been in labor all day, we decided to send her to the nursery for the night so I could rest up for the days to come. During the days, while I was in the hospital, we would keep Hadley in my room all day. We only sent her back to the nursery for night time. This meant that she took her naps in my room. So we started then.

I whipped out my cell phone and turned on her "Night Time" playlist. I know that quiet, classical music is peaceful and serene on its own, but I felt like she remembered. If she was ever fussy and/or started crying we would turn on her music and she would fall right to sleep. That is still true to this day, now five and a half months old.

A couple months ago, Hadley and I went to OKC by ourselves for a few different occasions. One trip we went with my grandparents. During this trip, there was a day that was extremely long. Hadley has a habit of not taking a nap (at least a good, long nap) unless we are at home and she is sleeping in her bed. Luckily, even without naps she never really gets fussy. She is usually just pretty content as long as there are people and kids for her to watch. She really enjoys people watching. And by people watching I mean people starring. She gets that from me :-/ Anyway, this day had been long. She hadn't had a nap. And by this point it was way past her bath and bed time. By the time we got in the car to head to the hotel she had come unglued. We were riding with my grandparents so I sat in the back with Hadley trying to soothe her and convince her we were headed to the hotel to go to bed. I talked to her. I played with her. That ten minute drive felt like ten hours because she was so upset. I had tried every everything. Nothing worked. So once again, I whipped out my phone and turned on her "Night Time" playlist. Once she quieted down enough to actually hear the music she was done crying. She didn't fall asleep. She just became calm. Everything was so new to her. New city. Car ride for two hours. Being at family's house all day. No nap. Her music was the only "normal" thing I could offer her and it worked!

Hadley has always been very particular about the music she listens too. I go through phases where I listen to a specific CD for months. I never realized it, but about three months after Hadley was born I had been listening to the same CD's in my car since the day we brought her home. One day while driving down the road she started screaming. I turned the radio up louder because she has been known to cry if she can't hear the music. Louder didn't work. Turning it off didn't work. Talking to her didn't work. So I turned the radio back on and started the CD over. Instantly she stopped. This was the day I discovered she likes tracks 1-7 on JJ Heller's Pretty and the Plain CD. Anything after track 7 is no good for her, I guess. So picky!!!

Even though I never really tested my "theory" there is no doubt in my mind that she recognizes her music. Music is important to her and her little 5 months of life. She is a little girl after her Momma's own heart.

"I was born with music inside me. Music was one of my parts. Like my ribs, my kidneys, my liver, my heart. Like my blood. It was a force already within me when I arrived on the scene. It was a necessity for me-like food or water.-Ray Charles"

my little jungle woman

This is my cousin, Grace Ann. She is six years old.
I know the video is not the best quality.
It is from my cousin's, Sierra, phone.
And the second video kind of repeats a bit of the first,
but the whole video wouldn't fit into one email.
And I also know that when Grace talks it is hard to hear.
Please, bear with me and the video if you can.
It is hilarious!!

So to sum this up in case you didn't catch it all:
Grace was moving out into the bushes out back.
She packed a gift bag of things she might need to survive out there.
This included: toys, paper plates, and "play" food.
When Sierra asks why she doesn't just stay home (after her bag breaks) she replies:
"Sugar doesn't like me."
Sugar is their itty bitty tiny yippy dog.
Sugar barked at her one too many times that day.
So Grace decided the dog didn't like her so she would pack up and move out.
Grace decided to stay when Sierra reassured her that everyone else in the house liked her.

Afterwards:
When my aunt, Deanna, asked Grace why she was going to move out without pants and shoes,
She replied: "I was moving into the jungle.
They don't wear pants and shoes in the jungle.
And once I got there, I was going to tear my shirt, because that's what jungle people do!"

Update.

--35 weeks--
I should have just waited to post a 36 week pic now that I'm 35 wees and 5 days ;)

Baby "Bump-Date"
*Also with help from my "What to Expect" app*

~How far along: 35 wks and 5 days
~Weeks remaining: 4 wks and 2 days
~Size of Baby G: Large Cantaloupe; not sure on weight- I have an appointment tomorrow!
~Weight Gain/ Loss: (Lost another pound) 19 lbs. total
~Maternity Clothes: Well since it's getting hot (I hate summer, btw! Pregnant or not!) I'm loving my maternity shorts and Maxi Dresses!!!
~Movement: Lots of movement, but there is less "jabs and kicking." I've read/heard this happens when the baby runs out of room.
~Cravings: Nothing specific. Just hungry! LOL
~Symptoms: burning achy hips!!!! I swear my hips wait until I try and sleep to get wider so then I can't sleep! Also, lots of rib pain!! I'm to the "completey uncomfortable" stage.
~Newest Discovery: I learned LOTS more about the actual Labor process. Oh Geez!
~Biggest Accomplishment: I don't know if this is a personal accomplishment, BUT I'm officially dialated to a "1" as of last week! Everyone was kind of surprised since I was still 5 weeks out. But I was pleased. The sooner I dialate, then quicker baby comes and the quicker I'm done being uncomfortable! ;)

And my random tid-bits for the day because I love these completely OPPOSITE videos: For your viewing pleasure!!!

the world wide web.

First off, I would just like to say I do not know how you people that blog every day do it???!
I honestly feel like I have nothing to say.
Maybe, once I have the baby, I will have something to talk about every single minute day.
But seriously, I just can't do it.
My life is not eventful or interesting.
I don't do enough to have a blog to "capture all those little moments."
But don't you worry- I religiously stalk and read my daily blogs! :) I've gotta stay in the loop!

But since we are talking about blogs I've been thinking...
(Oh great- I know!!)
Reading people's blogs are interesting. Ya know?
Some people are very raw and real.
Other's choose to keep is their "happy place."
Neither of which is "right or wrong", "typical", "fake", or anything.
People blog to journal.
People blog to vent.
People blog to have interaction with others that they might not get otherwise.
I see a great need for people to have an outlet to talk about whatever they want.
...for people to talk about whatever they need to talk about.

But then there is me.
I'm not good with expressing myself with my words, unless you know me well.
Things I saw are often misconstrued because of the tone I use.
People are often offended because they ask my opinion and they aren't prepared for the truth honesty.
I'm beyond terrible at showing excitement because it makes me feel awkward.
I hate things that make me cry, whether out of sadness or joy, because I feel venerable or weak.
I'm not good at showing my emotions unless it's a "frustrated/angry/annoyed" emotion.
I'm only good at showing when I'm mad because sadly that's the only time I feel completely in control.
That's when I know exactly what I am feeling and why I am feeling that way.
I'm just bad with emotions.

It's funny.
People think because I am so opinionated and so "outspoken" that I have a tough skin.
And it's not that I don't.
I can handle the truth.  and honesty.
People think because I am so opinionated that I don't care what others think about me.
When I do.
I'm not "self-conscious" about what others think.
But I care.

What I can't handle is the unknown.
I can't handle when I am completely myself and I don't know where I stand with someone.
I like to know what people think.
I'm an "acquired" taste of a personality.
Meaning I am QUITE aware I am not for everyone.
And that is fine.
It doesn't hurt my feelings.
But it doesn't mean I don't care either.
It just means I click with some and not with others.

What DOES bother me is that when people assume that since I am so opinionated that I am like that 100% all of the time. Sometimes I really don't have an opinion. OR sometimes I have an opinion that in that circumstance I know doesn't matter or won't change anything.

What DOES bother me is when people laugh when I say I do actually hold my tongue of my true feelings and thoughts 90% of the time.

What DOES bother me is when someone thinks they've got me all figured out. When in fact they probably haven't even scratched the surface.

I'm just easily bothered by people. (oh my gosh, yes, I said that.) Now everyone thinks I'm a horrible heart-less person. But since this is my blog I can be as truthful as I want. It's funny because the longer I type this entry the more I feel like someone will be thinking "Wow, who made her mad?" or "Man, I wonder who she is talking about?" Neither of which is the case. Actually I sat down here to write about something completely opposite than this. I have no idea where this is coming from. I just started reading other's blogs and realized exactly how personal people get on the internet. All of that to say, I don't know exactly how much of my life I really want to expose on here. There is definitely nothing on here that I would not say in "real life" or be uncomfortable with a stranger knowing. I mean, come on, this is the world wide web, people. Everyone has access to it. But I don't know... I don't know that I want to expose my entire past history. I don't know what I want people to know about me. I don't know if I like the idea of people knowing and seeing how I feel. I haven't decided. But that's for me. Don't get me wrong I LOVE reading other's blogs who "bare it all" without limits. I like to see people being true to themselves. But is it not a little funny knowing that these people reading your inner-most feelings, emotions, experiences, could possibly be people you've never met or will never meet? [I know this because I follow people I've never met ;) ] I just don't know.

Maybe next time I get on here I will write about what I intended to write about today. ha!

PS- I had a baby shower this past weekend and am having another one on Saturday. Baby showers are exciting! Except I feel horrible about opening presents in front of these nice people who bought me things because I can not show my excitement. I feel bad. I bet they all think I hate their gifts, which isn't true at all! I'm very gracious!

I have to confess...

I'm a junkie. A reality t.v. junkie. It doesn't help that a lot of my closest friends are JUST AS BAD as me!!! The true problem is, is that it is not just one or two or even three reality shows here and there. It's minimum 10 reality shows. 10 shows that if I miss I feel like I don't know what's going on in the world. You would think I would feel that way if I missed the news or something, but the truth of the matter is I don't even watch the news!! Reality t.v. is where it's at, people ;) I probably really need therapy for my addiction. They always say "admitting you have a problem is the first step." So here it goes:

My name is Heather and these are my top 10 reality t.v. show addictions:

1. "Jersey Shore": Yes, as trashy as it is (I know...) I compulsively watch with anticipation of the next episode. I'm going through the 5 stages of grief right now as the season finale was last week :( Best part of the Jersey Shore? 2 things: 1) Pauly D being the funniest person on television. NO LIE! 2) Wishing/Hoping that Snooki & Vinny become bf/gf.... If they don't next season I will be very disappointed!

2. "The Real World; Las Vegas": I watch The Real World every season. This season I am less than impressed. I think it's mostly because they have done "The Real World; Las Vegas" before. When I saw this season would be another Vegas season I was skeptical and for good reason. You can't re-do Vegas. These kids just don't compare. But with all that being said, I will continue to watch. I can't help it. Maybe it will get better??? :-/

3. "Keeping Up with the Kardashians": Also including, but not limited to: "Kourtney and Khloe take Miami" and "Kourtney and Kim take New York." We will just have to see about "Khloe and Lamar." I don't know where to even start or what to say about these people. I often sit and watch their shows and just think or say out loud "these people can NOT be for real." I really do think that too. By no means do I think their shows are scripted because you can script a mouth/vocabulary such as Khloe Kardashian. But I do think certain arguments or situations are provoked. Entertaining none the less. With Kim always being the center of attention, Kourtney and her insanely cute baby and wacko baby daddy, and Khloe's  crude sense of humor (and language)...It's addictive!

4. "Holly's World": I loved Holly Madison on "The Girls Next Door" (yes, I know...Don't judge me!) She was always the pretty perfect girlfriend. When she left the mansion and got her own show I was excited. Season 1 was slightly disappointing. I will have to admit that it was disappointing because there wasn't enough "drama" involved in her life. It seemed so boring compared to other reality shows. But this season is shaping up to be much better than the previous. Not because there is lots of drama, but just because they have more going on in their lives. My only complaint: Laura Croft. Oh my lands. I think the poor girl lost her brain. Honestly. She is an air head to say the least.
5. "Bethenny Ever After": Oh Bethenny Frankel. There is no other women on television that reminds me so much of myself. Honestly. She is the FUNNIEST person alive. I truly believe that. But I have a very dry sense of humor. So if you like people who are funny and tell jokes and make you laugh that way - Bethenny Frankel may not be your type of person. She is very quick whited and sarcastic!
6. "Kendra": She was my least favorite girlfriend on "The Girls Next Door" (again, don't judge!!). I began watching her show and I seem to enjoy her much more. To me, her show is the most "realistic" show of all reality shows. There is no drama. No petty girl fights. No arguments with friends. It is just her and her NFL husband trying to figure out life as newlyweds and as new parents. You watch them struggle as they move all over the country for the NFL and watch the toll it takes on their family. They are precious people.
7. "The Rachel Zoe Project": I love love love this show! And Rachel Zoe!! She is a close second to Bethenny Frankel as the funniest woman alive. Rachel Zoe, also, has the sarcastic, witty, sense of humor & I love it. Rachel Zoe is a celebrity stylist who works with everyone in the industry. The show is based on following her and her clients, her attending fashion shows, her designing her faux fur line, her styling people during fashion week, red carpet events, and everything stressful involved in fashion. One thing I love about her show is she is always give budget friendly fashion tips for the "average girl." Biggest down-fall of the show: her language. I sometimes have to fast forward (because you know I don't watch live t.v. thanks to DVR) thru some parts because her mouth can be too much.
8. "The Bachelor": along with 92.8% of the female population :) I did not get into "The Bachelor" until the Jason/Molly/Melissa season. Sometimes I get bored with the show. Every season is the same. Girl meets boy. Girls fight and argue. Girls fall in love with boy. Boy breaks girls heart and sends them home. Boy kisses one too many girls. Boy falls in love with girl. Boy proposes. Show ends and more often than not Boy and previously selected girl break up. Then everyone ends up on "Bachelor Pad" and that makes for a much more entertaining show than "The Bachelor" could ever be. But, still, I watch...
9. "Sister Wives": This show is so interesting to me!!!! As much as I do NOT agree with their life styles and their "biblical interpretation," they are intriguing. I guess I find it interesting because I've always wondered how the women in polygamist marriages dealt with their jealously, other wives, individual relationships with the husband. I love anything that has to do with human interaction. "Sister Wives" is just that! I love that the show does not make them seem so happy and everything is perfect all the time. They do address the jealously, the struggle with money, the having enough attention for each relationship to thrive. I feel bad for these people that they are being investigated by the police and their "marriage's" may be in trouble. Once again, I do not agree with their life styles. I do think it is wrong for him to be "married" to 4 different women. But they aren't hurting anybody. I'm sure there are other crimes and problems (that are actually hurting others) that the police could be addressing in their community.

10. "19 Kids and Counting": I truly have a love/hate relationship with this show. I love the show. I love their values and things they represent. I love that in all times they praise, thank, and acknowledge God. BUT... I hate that they have 19 kids. I feel bad for the 19 kids they are not getting enough individual attention from their parents. The fact that Jim-Bob (the dad) has SAID ON THE SHOW that he cannot list all of his kids birthdays because he just can't remember. That's sad! I hate that the older kids help raise their younger siblings. It's great when your older children want to help, but it's unacceptable when you have so many children that you RELY on your older kids to even raise all 19. I especially hate that they have no limits as to how many kids they will have. There IS a limit to what is considered "safe" for the female body. When Michelle's (the mom) life (along with the baby she is carrying) is in danger during pregnancy she needs to draw the line there. I understand with her last pregnancy it was a gallbladder issue, but her gallbladder isn't the only thing to blame for her blood pressure problem. The older she gets, and keeps having kids, the more unsafe it will become. Be responsible.

Now you all know my 10 deepest darkest secrets .... Ok maybe not to that extreme, but you get it....
It is funny to me that I talk about these people and these shows like I know them. I talk like we are BFF's and have a personal relationship with them. I need to get a life. haha! But until then, I will watch my shows and gossip and gab about these same shows to my other "reality t.v. junkie" friends. Especially one in particular (because she watches almost all of these same shows! and by most I mean 7 of the 10 listed)

Q. Quote from a movie: "You never see the hard times in a photo album, but those are the times that get you from one happy snap shot to the next." -Just Married.
